Atlanta hospital accepts grant to help soldiers heal

A Georgia medical facility was awarded a $100,000 grant to assist U.S. military service members who have suffered injuries to their brains, a published report states.

The Shepherd Center in Buckhead, cited as a top 10 rehabilitative hospital center in the U.S. by U.S. News & World Report, treats soldiers – both male and female – whose injuries are considered mild to moderate, The Buckhead Patch reports. The medical facility used to treat soldiers with spinal issues as well but has oriented its treatment primarily to head injuries.

"It has been an honor serving the men and women of our military,” said Gary Ulicny, Ph.D., president and CEO of Shepherd Center. “This grant from the Wounded Warrior Project will allow Shepherd Center to continue to help these heroes make a successful transition back to the community. We are extremely grateful for the opportunity."

Some of the grant money is likely to be earmarked for physical therapy jobs as part of efforts to rehabilitate the injured soldiers.

The Shepherd Center was founded in 1975 and has 152 beds to help patients heal.
