Away from home over the holidays

It is hard for a traveling nurse to be away from friends and family during the holiday season. While some nurses are able to schedule time between assignments for family around the holidays, if a contract extends over Thanksgiving, Christmas or Hanukkah there is very little chance of getting the day off as a visiting medical professional.

A traveling nurse may wish to partake in a holiday celebration with other visiting or local nurses. It will give her the opportunity to get to know new people in a less stressful environment than work. Even local nurses have nontraditional schedules that result in missed celebrations during these times. Planning an event for the group a few days before or after the holiday will give medical staff a better opportunity to attend.

Have each nurse bring their favorite family meal or a cultural dish for a potluck dinner. It will spread the responsibility so no one person is left cooking for everyone and will provide the perfect opportunity to try new cuisine!
