People who hold physical therapy jobs aided the remarkable improvement of an Indiana teen who was severely injured in late August, according to a published report.
BMX biker Brett Banasiewicz has improved 200 percent in physical therapy during the first 10-day period that he was being helped in a Texas facility for brain rehabilitation, according to ESPN. The August 23 crash in Virginia Beach, Virginia, prompted medical officials to place him in a medically induced coma in order to control bleeding and brain swelling.
The 18-year-old was expected to return home to South Bend in late December while continuing to peck away at an assortment of goals that he hopes to achieve by the end of next month.
Those goals include the capacity to send a text message with the use of both thumbs simultaneously, deepening the sound of his voice and using more words while speaking. He also would like to be able to perform 10 jumping jacks and once again drive his car.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics, physical therapists help patients recuperate from injuries, illnesses and surgeries by helping them manage pain and enhance range of motion.
