Healthcare continues strong hiring spree

Job hunters on the prowl for gainful employment might want to consider exploring healthcare careers, according to a published report.

The Huffington Post reports the healthcare sector augmented payrolls by 290,000 jobs this past year through November, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That period of time saw the U.S. economy add 1.7 million jobs total. November job growth was spearheaded by hospitals, nursing homes and assorted outpatient clinics, such as those run by physicians.

"Healthcare is adding several hundred thousand jobs a year regardless of what's going on in the broader economy, but when the broader economy hits a tailspin, then that healthcare jobs growth stands out that much more," managing editor Dan Diamond with the Advisory Board's Daily Briefing told the news source.

The past five years have seen healthcare job opportunities created at a swifter pace than forecast by employment trends. They account for one of every six jobs created this year.

During the Great Recession as jobs were lost en masse in 2008 and 2009, healthcare industry companies continued hiring new blood, the news source states.
