Healthcare industry delivers healthy boost to job market

Last month saw healthcare staffing increase by a significant amount more than it did in October, according to Health Leaders Media.

There were 17,200 jobs created in November, a sizable jump over the 11,600 created in October. Figures from November indicate the healthcare sector’s contribution to the month’s total job creation of 120,000 new opportunities was more than 14 percent, according to data provided by the U.S. Department of Labor.

In all of 2010, 263,400 new healthcare jobs were created. But, during the first 11 months of this year, more than 295,100 new healthcare jobs were created and that figure is driving toward 321,000 for the year.

The industry has helped create nearly one-in-four of the 1.2 million jobs created this year that are not germane to farming.

In November, hospitals created 8,700 new jobs and this year’s number of hospital jobs created, 83,200, at least doubles the number of new hospital jobs that were created during all of last year.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, half of the 20 most rapidly developing occupations pertain to healthcare.
