As job hunters fire up their efforts for the new year, one of the top industries to pursue is a nursing job, according to a published report.
Serving as a registered nurse is second to serving as a dentist, according to the U.S. News & World Report list as cited by New York Daily News. The Best Jobs of 2013 notes that the need for people to serve in nursing jobs is gaining momentum as a large part of the population grows older.
The median salary for nurses is nearly $66,000 per year, according to the news source.
The annual list looked at factors such as fulfillment, job security and the opportunity to perform strongly. The list also takes a close look at predictions and forecasts issued by the U.S. Department of Labor, probing the period of time from now through 2020. Additional factors include median salary, future job prospects, the unemployment rate and stress level.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, registered nurses are poised to see career opportunities develop at a 26 percent rate through the 10-year period leading to 2020.
