Political leaders consider legislation regarding rehabilitation

A congressman who represents a district in Upstate New York visited a physical therapy business as part of his effort to gain an understanding about a bill pending in the U.S. House of Representatives, according to a published report.

The visit of U.S. Representative Tom Reed, a Corning Republican, comes as political leaders consider the Medicare Access To Rehabilitation Services Act, MPN Now reports. The legislation seeks to raise limits that U.S. Congress included in the Balance Budget Act of 1997.

"People are not getting the care they need if they reach the cap," owner Zoe Fackelman with Lake Country Physical Therapy & Sportscare in Canandaigua told the news source, noting she initially invited the political leader to stop by this past summer to discuss the measure and how to best benefit patients whose improvement is reliant on working with people who hold physical therapy jobs.

The legislation establishes an annual financial limit on services like physical therapy and speech-language pathology services.

Physical therapists help patients recover from injuries and surgery by enhancing their range of motion and managing pain, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
