What is the Physical Therapy Compact license?
The Physical Therapy Compact is a license that allows Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants to work in all participating states with the same license. This prevents the hassle of having to obtain separate licenses to be more mobile in your travel career. The process of obtaining this license is quicker and cheaper than many individual state licenses.
Benefits of Obtaining a Compact License

- Price for license varies from state to state, but is cheaper than majority of license registration.
- Obtaining a PT Compact license takes a shorter time than an individual state license.

Eligibility for Compact Licensure
In order to be eligible for the PT Compact, you must meet the following requirements:
- You must hold a current Physical Therapy or Physical Therapy Assistant license in your home state of residence, which has to be a PT Compact state.
- You cannot have any disciplinary actions against your license for a two year period.
- The state you desire to work in must be a member of the Compact.
- The Jurisprudence Exam must be completed in all states that require it.
Responsibilities for Holders of Compact License
All Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants that hold a PT Compact License must:
- Pay all fees associated with obtaining the license.
- Practice within the rules, regulations, and laws of the remote state you are currently working in.
- Inform the PT Compact Commission of any name or address changes within 30 days of the change.
- Maintain your residence in a PT Compact member state and hold an active license in the same state.
