Tips for Traveling with Pets

I know that it can be an undertaking traveling with your pet to an assignment, but they are just like family members and we cannot leave them at home! It is a stressful time for your pet and requires proper planning. I hope these tips below are helpful in your travel adventures with your pet.

If you are traveling by car, it might be helpful to get a sedative from your vet to help with stress. This helps your pet become accustom to the vehicle. Make sure that you make stops at least every three hours to walk your pet and hydrate them. Also, only feed your pet once a day to help prevent any sickness during the ride.

If you are traveling by air it is best to book the most direct flights possible to prevent layovers. Layovers can be stressful with so many people around. You will be required to carry vet paperwork for the airline to provide proof that your pet is healthy. You will not want to sedate your animal due to the high altitudes which can cause negative effects.

If you are not able to immediately move into your housing unit once you reach your location, make sure that your hotel is also pet-friendly. There is a great website out there (petswelcome.com) that gives you a list in the area.

I hope these tips help in your next trip with your pet whether it is by car or plane.
