Travel nursing tips that weren’t taught in school – Part 1 [VIDEO]

Travel nursing professionals scheduled for shifts on Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years should look at the glass half full.

Transcript

Even with years of school behind travel nursing professionals, there are certain tricks of the trade that simply have to be learned in the real world.

For starters, help bed-bound patients avoid pressure ulcers on their heels – the least assessed part of the body – by letting the feet hang freely. Use a pillow to prop them up.

Second, to save yourself IV re-insertions, anchor IV sites with tape. Label and date them to simplify changing the lines.

Lastly, if you want to boost your clinical know-how, don’t do it watching “Grey’s Anatomy” or “ER.” Though entertaining, hospital-themed shows are far from reality. Stay in touch with healthcare news and ask your colleagues questions whenever you need to.
