Traveler Spotlight: Sarah T., ICU RN

I was watching The Office and Creed Bratton said a quote that stuck out to me. “No matter how you get there or where you end up, human beings have this miraculous gift to make that place home.” Travel healthcare is an adventure. You are moving every 13 weeks, picking up your belongings and going on a new adventure. You are meeting new people every assignment, building lifelong friendships, exploring new places, and then doing it all over again after your contract is up. It can be very hard to get comfortable and find a sense of home when life can take you to a whole different state after just three months.

Aureus traveler, Sarah T., has chosen the best of both worlds! Sarah is an ICU RN who has gone back to the same facility in Florida every winter for the past seven years. Even though her assignment is temporary, she has found a home for the winter months.

We sat down with Sarah to discuss why she has chosen to go back to Florida every winter.

Q: What caused you to want to go back to Florida every winter for a travel assignment?

A: The weather!!!! Other than the weather, I feel like I am part of a team here in Florida. I am not a “traveler” at this facility and I am reminded of it often at work. My director, manager, and peers are my extended work family and I have had the pleasure of being a part of their lives, professionally and personally. It has been rewarding being at a facility that is striving for excellence and growth, providing me with a professional pride that many do not experience in our field. I value all of my travel experiences but Florida will always have a special place in my heart.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do in Florida during your down-time?

A: The beach is one of the most calming places on earth for me. Sunrise, sunset, mid-day… it is always so special!

Q: What made you want to start a career in travel nursing?

A: Being from a small town in Oklahoma, this has allowed me to fulfill my dream of traveling the country and having experiences beyond typical vacations. The experiences and challenges from each assignment have exposed me to various situations that I feel have made me a more complete nurse.

Q: How has your experience with Aureus Medical been?

A: Aureus has been my rock for all of my travel assignments. My recruiters have always been available for any questions or concerns while on assignment. I feel their team of recruiters advocate for me… especially Heather Haynie!!
