A man who holds a nursing job with a veterans’ hospital in California has dealt with complaints like headaches, lingering pain in bullet wounds and phantom pain where limbs once were, according to a published report.
Nurse practitioner Roman Samiley also is a U.S. Army reserve veteran and he fulfills his professional responsibilities at West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Medical Center, The Pasadena Star News reports. He said the job is demanding yet they do as much as they can to treat the patients.
“You have to be the jack-of-all trades when you work with veterans,” the 42-year-old told the news source earlier this month. “We try to treat as many issues as we can, because we don’t always know if we’ll see them again.”
He primarily treats homeless veterans who served in the U.S. effort in Vietnam. Many of the patients have diabetes or hypertension and also are in need of treatment for mental health issues.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, nurses help patients and their loved ones and friends with advice and emotional support.
