The healthcare and education industries in New Mexico gained 7,800 jobs during the past 12 months, a notable figure considering growth and development are not too widespread, the Daily Times reports.
The Workforce Solutions Department also stated the industries are projected to continue expanding, which will do its part to create nursing jobs and steady employment while also spurring business. Healthcare and education are expanding more rapidly than other industries.
“This industry seems to always do well, slowing down during recessions, but never turning negative and losing jobs,” the department said in a Sept. 22 release. “As the largest private-sector industry, educational and health services’ consistent growth provides stability for the economy as a whole.”
Healthcare’s economic might is clearly viewable in Farmington by the San Juan Regional Medical Center, which is surrounded by medical offices.
One reason the healthcare industry is so large is because it employs workers at all levels of education, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Most employees in the industry have as few as three years higher education but more sophisticated jobs command practitioners to be more educated.
