An Oregon man who holds a physical therapy job is looking to work out some of the weaknesses of running, according to a published report.
Jay Dicharry wrote a book about his efforts, which itemized various aspects of running like analysis of the gait, advice for the best way of preventing injuries and exercises that are corrective and complementary to running, such as methods of strengthening toes, enhancing the core and solidifying stability, Reuters reports.
“What are your problems? Do you over stride? Do you have posture issues? Poor foot control? Find out what your biggest problem is and fix it. That will improve where you are,” he told the news source. “Coaches get lots of information on how to train the heart and lungs. But we don’t get enough on how to keep the body healthy. The more stable the chassis, the more efficient you can be.”
He said studies indicate that roughly 33 percent of runners suffer some sort of injury every year.
Physical therapists typically hold a doctoral degree in physical therapy, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
