More than 70 people last month were given new footwear in North Carolina as a method of addressing issues with their feet, according to a published report.
Hosted by the University of North Carolina Physical Therapy's Hillsborough clinic, the Free Your Feet event was on November 17, News of Orange County reports. Marge Walston walked away with a free pair of therapeutic shoes – and a wide smile on her face.
"It's really fulfilling, exciting, fun to see someone who's had feet that hurt, and they've tried who knows how many pairs of shoes, and they're smiling, and they're holding the brand new pair, and they say, 'My feet haven't felt like this for years,'" assistant director Mike McMorris with the Hillsborough clinic and an assistant professor at UNC-Chapel Hill told the news source. "And that's what makes the whole thing worth it."
Occurring twice a year at the University of North Carolina, the event was created by Pat Pande, who holds a physical therapy job at the clinic in Chapel Hill.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, physical therapists help patients manage their pain and enhance their range of motion after injuries and surgical procedures.
