Springtime always brings “spring cleaning” but for a healthcare professional traveling around the country, what does that mean? As you put on your spring clothes and pull out the lightweight jackets, do you think about cleaning your travel gear? Hmm…most travelers probably don’t. The most popular travel items that need to be cleaned, and are often forgot about, include laptop bags, suitcases, garment bags, toiletry cases, and any bins you may use to move things around from place to place. Here are a couple important things to keep your traveling gear fresh and clean.
Ahhhh…the laptop bag. How many times have you sat that on the floor in the airport bathroom or a restaurant? Kind of a scary thought, isn’t it. Be sure you wipe down the entire outside, including pockets, flaps, tags, etc thoroughly and then wipe down the inside.
Toiletry items that you refill and carry with you need to be rinsed out and cleaned with hot soap and water.
When cleaning your suitcases, be sure to include all the zipper compartments, luggage tags, and hidden compartments. Once you arrive at your destination and unpack, toss a dryer sheet into your empty luggage to keep it fresh and clean. (This helps to keep bugs out too).
All purpose cleaners and disinfectants are always a good choice, but if you are looking to be really ECO friendly, a mixture of 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water does a fabulous job cleaning your gear.
