“Extended Stay” seems to be two of the scariest words in a traveler’s vocabulary.
Recently, I had the opportunity to travel to one of my favorite cities to send my travelers…Houston, Texas! My team and I wanted the full on “travel” experience, so we stayed at one of the Extended Stay Hotels where we often set up our travelers. Why is it that these two words, Extended Stay, seem to be a bit of taboo in the travel world?
Often times, when I speak to travelers and mention staying at an Extended Stay, they think I’m getting some sort of out-of-this-world deal, saving tons of money while they suffer the consequences. But, it’s quite the opposite. As an Account Manager who has your best interest at heart, these Extended Stays are typically much closer to the hospital than any apartment, making your commute as easy as possible. They come equipped with everything you need, they’re secure, and are all-inclusive (meaning you won’t have additional parking, utility, and rent fees).
As a home-body and home-maker, I couldn’t help but think of all the ways I could “spruce up” my room while I was there. Here are a few tips to take into consideration when your next assignment calls for an Extended Stay.
- Bring your own sheets and comforter. While these hotels are cleaned daily, nothing beats climbing into your own bed when the time comes. Use the laundry mat across the street to wash your linens and make friends with the staff to let them know you’ve provided your own!
- Invest in decor you can move easily. Fake plants, picture frames, and non-flame candles are the best ways to add coziness to any place
- Add a wreath to your door. Check out this link for some fun ideas!
- You’ll have to provide your own dishware, so you might as well get a fun colored set to make your kitchen a little happier.
- There’s typically a little bar or table, so get a festive table cloth and an eye catching centerpiece (fresh flowers are the best!).
Just like anything in life, an Extended Stay is what you make of it. Enjoy the fact that you get free breakfast, friendly faces, and a place to rest your head comfortably. Don’t be afraid to make it a little home-away-from-home and enjoy your time, no matter where you are!
