Mentorship or Traveling? Why Not Both?

Mentorship. It’s currently the hottest buzzword at career fairs as soon-to-be graduates talk with prospective employers about their budding therapy careers. Taking that first step into the post-graduate world can be a little scary, and having that security blanket of taking a position with a solid mentor to guide you can help ease those nerves.

Mentorship can also be a reason for many therapists to dismiss the idea of pursuing a travel therapy career as a new grad. How could someone find a great mentor when you’re constantly on the move every 13 weeks? You’ve probably heard horror stories of a fellow therapist taking a travel assignment as a new grad, only to go to the middle-of-nowhere to be the only therapist on site with no mentorship.

Sounds pretty awful, right? Enter Aureus Medical and our mentorship program. Here at Aureus, we’re flipping the script by allowing you to have great mentorship AND travel. And with the extra element of travel, we think two mentors are better than one. Here’s how it works:

  1. The first part of our mentorship program is pretty straightforward. For your first assignment, we can pitch you assignments that will have a full-time therapist on site with you at all times. You can also have this option for as long as you travel with Aureus! Most of these facilities are places we’ve sent new grads in the past where they’ve been successful in kick-starting their travel careers.
  2. We also realized that you might have extra questions about the travel side of your career that the on-site mentor might not be equipped to handle. Luckily, we have a vast network of former travelers who are volunteering their time to help. Like you, they started traveling with Aureus as new grads, so they know exactly what you will be going through. They will be matched up one-on-one with you and have experience in the same setting you’ll be working in. They’ll serve as “virtual mentors”, being only a call, text, or email away to answer any questions you have or just be a sounding board to talk through fears or hesitations with. Right now this option is only for PTs and OTs, but we will be looking to expand to other specialties with more mentors!

So now that you know mentorship and travel therapy aren’t mutually exclusive, what’s the next step? If you’re graduating soon and want to line up a mentor, head to our website to start the process.

Or if you’re still not sure and want to talk more, give us a call or shoot us an email! We’re here to talk with you and give you all the info (the good, the bad, and the ugly) about traveling.

Happy travels!
