With the holidays approaching quickly, everyone is looking at their “to do” list and trying to figure out just how they are going to fit everything in. Whether you are finishing up school work or trying to figure out when to see family and friends, it’s no secret that these times can be stressful. The question is, what are you going to do to manage your stress? As a student in a rigorous and demanding field of study, you owe it to yourself to do whatever you can to recharge your batteries. Let’s face it, you don’t get many opportunities to give yourself a break so take advantage of the time you have! By taking some much needed time off, you set yourself up for a successful start to classes and/or rotations.
Here are some simple, yet often overlooked tips to taking full advantage of your holiday breaks:
- Schedule downtime for sleep and relaxing
- Prioritize holiday invitations
- Keep old traditions alive, but be open to adding new ones
- Make your favorite holiday snack
- Spend time with the people you care about, but also leave time for yourself
- Watch funny movies

I can tell you from my personal experience, spending time with people whom I like the most, makes my holidays fantastic. It creates some more sweet memories which can be remembered in the time of stress. 🙂
Use past examination papers when revising to familiarise ‘yourself with the sort of questions that might be asked. When revising, take a few minutes break every so often to clear and refresh your mind and allow some time off for complete relaxation.
