Last year saw the creation of 314,700 jobs germane to healthcare, almost 20 percent of the total jobs created during 2011 in the U.S., according to Health Leaders Media.
Healthcare staffing at hospitals saw increases in 2011 that more than doubled figures from the year prior. In 2010, hospitals created 37,300 jobs while 89,100 jobs were added in 2011. The final month of last year saw the creation of 9,800 new hospital jobs, and a Missouri hospital administrator holds a bright optimism for this year's outlook.
"Last year, 2011, was a very good year for St. Luke's Health System. It's going to be more of the same in 2012," senior vice president for human resources Dawn Murphy with the 10-hospital St. Luke's Health System in Kansas City told the news source. "We are adding staff, particularly nurses, because of our facilities' expanding. We have seen volume increases and [they] have stimulated our hiring."
Healthcare jobs created at physicians' offices last year amounted to 67,600, almost tripling the 25,300 professional opportunities that were created the year prior.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the majority of healthcare jobs necessitate less than four years of college though work entailing diagnostics and treatment requires significantly more education.
