Pets are a big part of many people’s lives. For that reason, we thought it would be a good idea to come up with some tips for traveling with pets and things to consider.
Most importantly, make sure your Account Manager knows when you plan on traveling with a pet or think that you might want to bring one along. This is important because the Account Manager will know whether the assignment will allow for certain types of pets depending on travel arrangements and available housing in the area. This can prevent a great deal of heartache from losing an assignment because a pet cannot be accommodated. Here are a few key elements to consider when traveling with a pet:
- Small animals usually travel better than large ones. For example, on many airlines small dogs and cats are allowed to fly as carry on as long as they can fit underneath the seat. Click here for tips on flying with pets.
- You will run into less issues obtaining housing for small animals rather than medium/large animals.
- When driving, it is a good idea to plan for stops every 2-3 hours for a dog to get out and move around and use the bathroom. Click here for some good tips for driving with pets.
- Visit your veterinarian and make sure that all shots are up to date and administer flea and tick medication.
- If you are staying at hotels along the way, make sure that you make reservations where pets are allowed and inquire about pet fees and deposits.
We wish happy and safe traveling for you and your companion!
