A change in the 2014-2015 flu season [VIDEO]

Transcript

While travel nursing professionals know that it’s hard to predict exactly what the upcoming flu season will be like, there is a slight new change that administrators will have to be aware of this winter.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended that beginning in the 2014-2015 season, healthy children ages 2 through 8 use the nasal spray vaccine called LAIV.

This depends on whether the child has any contraindications to the vaccine. Studies indicate the nasal spray flu vaccine may be more effective than the flu shot in younger children.

The peak season is generally December through February, and travel nursing specialists should advise patients to get their vaccinations sooner rather than later.

As always, thanks for checking in, and we’ll see you next time!
