Alabama nursing graduates seek gainful employment

The first graduates of the nursing program at South University in Alabama are embarking on their pursuit of gainful employment in the real world, according to a published report.

In search of nursing jobs, the graduates of the College of Nursing and Public Health at the school in Montgomery are entering an industry that is in high demand, according to WNCF. Nurse recruitment director Linda Hill with Jackson Hospital in Montgomery said aging baby boomers are creating a sizable demand at medical centers for nurses to take care of them.

"Oh my gosh, I have finally seen the fruits of my labor, after 21 months I am ecstatic to see this day,” graduate Nurvah Estime told the news source, underscoring her survival in the program. "It feels great to have gone from 12 students to the last five."

The emergency room at Jackson Hospital has hired six nursing graduates thus far this spring, Hill said. She noted there are 30 additional registered nurse positions open.

South University offers two degrees for nursing, a bachelor of science and a master of science, according to the school's website.
