American nurses featured in new book

A newly released book is doing its part to honor the work performed by people who hold nursing jobs, according to a published report.

"The American Nurse" features nurses throughout the nation, according to The New York Times. One of those nurses is Jason Short of Kentucky, who once was an auto mechanic before moving on to become a commercial trucker. But then he continued moving on and went into nursing, from which he is unlikely to leave, according to his remarks in the book.

"When the economy went under I thought it would be a good idea to get into health care," his commentary reads in the book, according to the news source. "Once you get a taste for helping people, it's kind of addictive."

In total, the book features stories of 75 caregivers – many of whom have long held the desire to help people. Other nurses migrated to the sector for reasons such as paying bills.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, nurses help patients, their families, friends and additional loved ones with the coordination of care, advice and emotional support.
