Choosing a travel nurse assignment to coincide with annual events

A travel nurse with an avid interest in a subject may wish to plan her contract assignments to coincide with local events around the United States. Careful planning can enable a nurse to orchestrate jobs to span the period festivals or celebrations are held in a region.

If a travel nurse strategizes and discusses an interest in visiting a particular region or city during certain months with her agency, she may find herself attending Mardi Gras in New Orleans, a re-enactment of the Battle of Gettysburg or the Chicago Jazz Festival.

Cheryl Tippie, RN, is an avid practitioner of Bando martial arts, according to Healthcare Traveler. She tried for two years to get an assignment near Baltimore in order to attend the international Bando Monk System Instructor Testing Program. Her second attempt was a success.

Tippie compromised on on her preferred contract responsibilities in order to attend the event.

"I was willing to assume these duties because it placed me in Baltimore at the same time as the testing event," she explains. "As a traveler, you have to be flexible. You cannot be too set in your ways."

A travel nurse willing to compromise on facility, contract length or responsibilities could get the opportunity to attend an annual event that fits her interests.
