Companies gravitate toward hosting clinics with larger capacities

Large-size employers are increasing the capacities of their in-house health clinics, according to the Washington Post.

Employees now are able to work with people who hold physical therapy jobs, see dental and vision specialists, and consult mental health counselors. Some employers also have acupuncturists and masseuses readily available to be of service. On top of cutting down on employee absences, the perks help companies hold on to their employees while also attracting new ones.

Vanguard employee Linda Wolohan benefited from using a physical therapist at her company in Pennsylvania to treat a bulging disc in her back instead of traveling 60 minutes for one near her house. Her co-payment was $10 per session, which was less than it would have been had she gone to a community physical therapist.

"It was convenient," Wolohan told the news source. "Getting to a physical therapist near home was hard to schedule."

Physical therapists aid with their clients' recovery and rehabilitation from injuries and chronic conditions, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
