Aspiring caregivers are finding the education they need to help them secure nursing jobs at a school on the Southeast Coast of Florida, according to a published report.
In fact, the O'Reggio Technical Career Institute also helps produce candidates to pursue employment opportunities as nursing assistants, The Sun-Sentinel reports. The school generates certified nursing assistants in two months, and four students started the coursework earlier this month.
"In my experience as a professor, I was really concerned about the failure rates of the students entering the registered nurse program," founder Eileen O'Reggio told the news source, noting she was a registered nurse and an instructor at Broward College and Palm Beach State College. "They are thrown into the program with no knowledge for taking those exams. Preparation is the key and preparing them before they get there I think is the solution."
She said she wants to see the school she leads recognized as a registered nonprofit organization so that it will qualify for government grants that will help with tuition costs.
Registered nurses work in hospitals, at offices of physicians, with services for home healthcare and at facilities for nursing care, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
