Gym helps provide children with therapeutic needs

Children facing developmental challenges work with people who hold occupational and physical therapy jobs at a Chicago-area facility, according to a published report.

Therapy Yoga Gymnastics Rocks in Northbrook caters to the needs of children ranging in age from 2 to 13, typically in one-on-one sessions, The Northbrook Star reports. Dala Aavik Lucas, who delivers therapeutic services at the facility in the form of occupational, physical and speech practices, said the job she holds is most enjoyable.

"We do a lot of psychological work as well as physical, treating the entire person," Lucas said. "It's really rewarding, because it's working on what people and children do to occupy their lives."

Children work in classes for yoga and gymnastics with the objective of improving skills that are physical, cognitive and social. The children work in small peer groups or larger classes, whichever is more beneficial to their particular need.

Private offices and clinics, hospitals and nursing homes typically are the locales where physical therapists often work, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
