Man advances from comatose state to physical therapy

Brandon Fisher came to in the company of his family 15 days after having been in a stage-three coma resulting from an early-morning car crash with a suspected drunken driver in Chico, The Orion reports. Fisher advanced from the medical center where he was recouping to a physical therapy and rehabilitation center on December 23.

"It was the best Christmas gift," his mother Juline Hobbs told the news source, noting his injuries include skull and pelvis fractures and the issues he was set to work on with people who hold physical therapy jobs are speech and sitting up straight. "It's been a slow process, but he is a fighter."

A senior in college studying construction management, Fisher also will have to work on walking.

Physical therapists help patients manage pain and recover from injuries, operations and illnesses, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
