New York is forecast to see the creation of as many as 1,500 new medical careers as a result of the combined effort of three entities devoting $4.2 million to the cause, according to a published report.
Driving toward creating health information technology jobs, the coalition consists of the New York eHealth Collaborative, the New York City Investment Fund and the New York State Department of Health, Healthcare IT News reports. The new program is called the New York Digital Health Accelerator and it aims to establish the Empire State as a center for the emerging health technology industry.
"The Digital Health Accelerator program will further advance New York's national leadership in health IT as it will attract leading-edge companies at the forefront of developing the technology necessary for robust electronic health records and digital care coordination systems," New York State Health Commissioner Nirav R. Shah, MD told the news source.
He said healthcare is becoming a high-quality, cost-efficient and patient-centered care field with the assistance of health information technology.
The New York Department of Health regulates hospitals and healthcare facilities and aids initiatives supporting public health and prevention, according the department's website.
