New software helps physical therapists

Software released earlier this year is helping people who hold physical therapy jobs be of even better assistance to their clients, according to a published report.

The FitTEST program is a key tool that physical therapists may use for myriad purposes to outline the link between physical fitness and health, marketing director Gwynn Hegyi told The Columbia Daily Tribune. She said physical therapists are key to aiding people's correct movement.

"The No. 1 killer in our country is obesity and not exercising," the marketing director told the news source. "We, as physical therapists, see people all the time who often can't move because of pain and/or they have pain because they're putting way too much pressure or weight on their joints. We developed this program as a tool to help our patients understand what their risk was for disease."

The program's first step is an assessment, which inquires about topics like the patient's weight, height, body fat percentage, blood pressure and resting heart rate.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, physical therapists help patients improve flexibility, manage their pain and enhance their movement after injuries and surgery.
