Nursing program generates upstanding nurses

Many people who are working in medical centers in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey have an academic program to thank for the help landing these nursing jobs, according to a published report.

Located in Newburgh, New York, the Mount Saint Mary College program has proved to be a strong foundation for Chris Bernardino, The Hudson Valley Press Online reports. As a junior, Bernardino works at the Orange regional Medical Center and picks up a new patient during each shift. Along with roughly 40 colleagues from the program, Bernardino takes vital statistics, draws blood samples and administers medication.

"This is what I want to spend the rest of my life doing, without a doubt. When clinical is done at 5 o'clock I don't want to go home," Bernadino told the news source. "Taking care of people is the best way to get them on track to having happy, holistic, rich lives."

The applied learning at the nursing school begins during the sophomore year.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, nurses help patients and their families with assistance during decision making and by providing emotional support.
