Tips for Traveling with Pets

I know that it can be an undertaking traveling with your pet to an assignment, but they are just like family members and we cannot leave them at home! It is a stressful time for your pet and requires proper planning. I hope these tips below are helpful in your travel adventures with your pet.

If you are traveling by car, it might be helpful to get a sedative from your vet to help with stress. This helps your pet become accustom to the vehicle. Make sure that you make stops at least every three hours to walk your pet and hydrate them. Also, only feed your pet once a day to help prevent any sickness during the ride.

If you are traveling by air it is best to book the most direct flights possible to prevent layovers. Layovers can be stressful with so many people around. You will be required to carry vet paperwork for the airline to provide proof that your pet is healthy. You will not want to sedate your animal due to the high altitudes which can cause negative effects.

If you are not able to immediately move into your housing unit once you reach your location, make sure that your hotel is also pet-friendly. There is a great website out there (petswelcome.com) that gives you a list in the area.

I hope these tips help in your next trip with your pet whether it is by car or plane.

  1. Hi everybody! My name is Sam and I’m an Australian cattle dog who always travels with my Dad. We always take my truck cuz Dad likes to haul too much stuff. My job on the road is to navigate and make sure that Dad gets lots of rest breaks on the road. I also keep the dinosaurs and sharks away and one time at a rest area in TX I saw a warning sign about rattlesnakes! I made Dad get right in the truck. At The Grand Canyon we saw some elk and they were all out of order and I wanted to herd them, but Dad said that it was best to just let them sort things out for themselves. I have an account with LaQuinta and we stay with them a lot cuz they always have cookies for me! Dad works some long shifts and I always make sure to meet him at the door when he gets back and that we go for lots of walks so that he gets his exercise. Dad says that I’m a great traveler and I’m glad that he found Aureus for us.

I’m glad the apartment has lived up to your standards, Sam, because we definitely want to make sure you’re stay is a comfortable one while your dad is out working hard! We’re glad you made the decision to travel with Aureus, and look forward to continuing to show you all the dog friendly locations of the country! We appreciate you BOTH, and thanks for all you do!!!!!
