Top 10 Reasons Healthcare Professionals are Attracted to Travel

Full disclosure: I’m not a healthcare traveler. But I talk on a daily basis with healthcare professionals who are seeking to throw a wrench in their well-established daily routines and work as contract employees at facilities across the nation. So, what does that mean for all you reading this? I’m beyond qualified to offer up my perspective on why so many healthcare professionals take a hiatus from their full-time staff position to travel.

So, without further ado, here’s my list of the top 10 reasons why I believe travel assignments are appealing:

1. Travel healthcare provides the perfect opportunity to be able to keep out of the hospital politics. After all, drama free is the way to be!

2. You’re able to test the waters of a new location and facility before making the decision to relocate.  As the saying goes, try it before you buy it! Travel assignments offer a way to essentially do just that in order to avoid a potentially bad fit.

3. Enhance your resume and broaden your professional skill set through new experiences. #EnoughSaid

4. The chance to move out of your comfort zone. “Insert inspirational cliché about your comfort zone here!” Traveling allows those who feel stuck in a rut the ability to grow and see things with a new perspective.

5. Meet new people and gain life-long friends. It’s true, I do hear from travelers about the loneliness they encounter on the road. But, even more often I hear how amazing travel is because of the new relationships that are established along the way at each new assignment.

6. Explore, explore, explore! There’s so much to see in this great country. Travel assignments allow people to experience the unique eats and the beautiful sights of new areas they wouldn’t have visited otherwise.

7. The unknown. It’s exciting to not know exactly what lies down the road or what’s to come at your next assignment.

8. Increased pay. For some, it’s all about the Benjamins.

9. You can help those in need. Travelers are brought into facilities for a variety of reasons, including after a natural disaster hits. It’s amazing on my end to witness how passionate so many travelers are about using their skills to help facilities care for patients and communities.

10. The pros outweigh the cons. There are so many great things that can come from travel, what’s there to lose by taking the leap?!

Now I want to know, what are the top reasons you’re attracted to travel?
