When you were a kid, you probably couldn't wait for summer vacation to start. It was finally a time when you wouldn't have to worry about tests and quizzes, homework or projects, and all of your attention could be focused on going to the beach or hanging out with friends by the pool. Of course, we all grow up and in most professions, there is no such thing as taking the summer off. But the great thing about being a travel physical therapist is you can still enjoy all the fun and sun of summertime because you can take assignments in America's best cities for summer travel.
There are so many great places you can request a travel physical therapy assignment that are especially exciting during this time of year. Consider working at one of these locations for fun events, nice weather and physical therapy conventions.
1. Charlottesville, Virginia – This year marks the 250th anniversary of this historic, beautiful city located in the hills of Virginia. Charlottesville has been ranked among the best cities to live in the country by many publications and attracts many visitors each year. While you're there, visit Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, walk the stunning grounds of University of Virginia and tour one of the many vineyards.
What's more, the Cervical Spine Disorder: Examination and Selected Interventions convention for physical therapists is taking place there from July 28-29. Between the distinctive architecture and Southern hospitality you will experience while on assignment, you'll be wondering why you never came to Charlottesville before.
2. Portland, Maine – Lobster lovers, this one is for you. The summer cuisine in New England attracts visitors from near and far, making it the perfect spot for your next travel physical therapy assignment. When you're not feasting on lobster mac-and-cheese, you can explore the cobblestone streets of the Old Port or take a boat out on the water. This is a relaxing place to spend a summer afternoon and the temperatures this time of year are warm and comfortable.
3. San Francisco, California – The City by the Bay is lovely any time of year, but is particularly nice during the summer. Travel and Leisure magazine named it one of the best places in the country for summer travel due to its mild weather and outdoor dining options. Just make sure if you plan on having a patio dinner to pack a few sweaters, the temperatures will likely be in the low to mid-70s, much cooler than many other parts of the country during the summer months.
