“Biggest question: Isn’t it really ‘customer helping’ rather than customer service? And wouldn’t you deliver better service if you thought of it that way?”
– Jeffrey Gitomer
I ran across this quote the other day and it made me think. Isn’t that exactly what our business is about? In staffing, we have four customers: the employees, the facilities, candidates and the patients.
When you think about service, each customer will have its own specifics as to what they are looking for as well as their own expectations for the level of “service” that is required. Then you have the follow up, the pricing and then the wage and YADA, YADA, YADA. But shouldn’t more of our questions be based on:
- How can I help YOU?
- What can I do to relieve your pain?
- How can I offer a solution and not a band-aid?
- What more can I do for you?
So when I saw this quote it really simplified this whole ”customer service” issue – if we could all just think about helping people, not for any gain or any real gift, but to genuinely help those we are in contact with each and every day, it would make things much more simple.
Let’s face it…..wouldn’t we all want to be around people that WANT to help each other rather than those who get paid for a service? Sometimes it sounds too good to be true. Helping people/customers has to be a mindset and an attitude, not a separate department or function of a job.
My belief has always been that in the career of placing people that, as a recruiter, you are here to SERVE those customers and to do as much as you can to benefit your customers and offer as much as you can to your fellow man.
I leave you with one more quote and something to think about:
“I won’t complain. I just won’t come back.”
