With the weather turning colder in most areas of the country, the natural instinct is to hibernate in our homes. Shorter daylight hours, chilly temps, and the crazy hours of healthcare workers make curling up with your Snuggie seem like the best idea ever. However, your workouts should not fall by the wayside when the thermometer dips.
We’ve provided a few tips to help you keep your active lifestyle during the winter months:
- Find a workout partner. Another person will hold you accountable and you won’t be so quick to back out of workout plans.
- Stretch your legs during your lunch hour. Go for a quick walk or run with a co-worker.
- Skip the elevator! Use every opportunity to take the stairs.
- Join a gym or use the on-site gym at your facility (if they have one). Most gyms offer fantastic deals at the beginning of the year – take advantage of this. Or if you want to start earlier, see if they’ll give you the same deal in December.
- If you belong to a gym, try a new fitness class. A change of pace can jolt you out of your doldrums.
- Try a new indoor sport – ice skating, racquetball, basketball, etc.
- Walk your dog. It’s beneficial to both of you. Make sure to dress for the elements though.
